emotional development

The emotional development among infants and toddlers entails the acknowledgment, manifestation, and moderation of feelings, which establishes the basis of well-being and social competence. During the first three years, children go through the stage of simple emotions (joy, distress) to
complex emotions (empathy, pride) and first self-regulation. Responsive care and safe attachments are needed to develop trust and resilience (Bowlby, 1988; Berk, 2022).

how educators help?

Educators help to encourage this area by portraying responsive caregiving, emotion coaching, and modeling calm behavior. Relationship Skills Emotional security is encouraged through the maintenance of routines, the establishment of safe places such as calm corners, and work with families. In connection with the EYLF Outcomes 1 and 3, authentic learning takes place in play and routines. Some of the strategies involve reading books relating to feelings, role-playing with the help of a puppet, and providing sensory tools to control them. Having such experiences appeals to more vocabulary, empathy, and coping (Denham et al., 2012).
